Questions on Dentures

 1. How do I clean my dentures?

Daily remove and brush the denture carefully with a brush and toothpaste, both specifically designed for denture cleaning.

2. Should my dentures come out at night?

Yes, if possible, you should leave the dentures out and soak them in water or denture cleaning solution.  Leaving the dentures out allows better blood circulation for the oral cavity to rest and to heal.  Also leaving the dentures out at night time will lessen the likelihood of oral fungal infection.

3. What is the maximum amount of time a denture can be left in Polident?

Although most denture cleaners have minimum recommended soaking time (3minutes for Polident) no harm can occur by soaking them longer than recommended.  If you wear partial dentures, you want to make sure you get 'partial denture' cleaner, since partial dentures have metal component.

4. Are there foods you should avoid if you wear dentures?

Most people will get used to wearing dentures after awhile and be able to manage most foods well. But sticky and hard foods seem to present challenge for most denture wearers.

5. If you wear dentures, are dental adhesives necessary?

Denture adhesives are only necessary if you have hard time keeping your dentures in place.  If you find denture adhesive messy and difficult to use, you may consider 'relining' the dentures
